Crafting Solid Glass Art
Creating a solid glass paperweight requires immense skill and timing. Unlike hollow items, these pieces are formed by gathering layer upon layer of 1200°C molten glass on the end of a steel rod.
The master glassmaker carefully introduces colored glass fragments and air bubbles between the clear layers. Using specialized wooden blocks and metal tools, the heavy, glowing mass is continuously turned and shaped by hand until the perfect silhouette is achieved.
